What is a wheelchair accessible vehicle?
Wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) are cars or vans that have been converted to carry passenger(s) travelling in their wheelchair.
There are three main types of WAV conversion:
At Bristol Street Versa, we supply a range of rear passenger vehicles but we do not supply up-front passenger or drive-from-wheelchair.
Will I need to pay a deposit when I place my order?
Unless you are a Motability grant funded customer, we do require a deposit to be paid at the time of placing your order. The amount payable varies depending on the vehicle being ordered. The deposit to be paid would be agreed with your Sales Advisor.
Do you offer finance?
We do not currently offer finance.
Can I get any assistance towards the cost?
Motability may be able to provide financial help. This is known as a ‘grant’ for customers who would otherwise struggle to afford the mobility solution they need. To ensure their limited funds go only to those most in need, Motability means-test all applications and any help they give can only be towards the most affordable solutions. Do you take vehicles in part exchange?
Sometimes we will take a vehicle in part exchange but this depends on the make & model, age and condition. Your Sales Advisor would be able to advise if we would take your car/WAV in part exchange, and also provide a part exchange valuation.
What models of wheelchair accessible vehicle do you supply?
We supply a range of wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) as we appreciate that every customer has their own unique requirements. We convert and supply New vehicles from Renault, Volkswagen and Ford. Legally, we are only able to convert New vehicles for which we hold a Type Approval, and therefore only the models listed are available.
We also supply Used vehicles from many other manufacturers, including Citroen, Peugeot and Fiat.
Do you sell Used wheelchair accessible vehicles?
We do supply Used wheelchair accessible vehicles. Most of our stock is less than 3 years old and we can either sell on the Motability Nearly New Scheme or to retail customers. We also regularly refresh our demonstrator fleet to ensure we are always showing customers the latest models & features, and our ex-demonstrators represent great value for money as they are typically less than 1 year old and crammed full of optional extras!
How long will I have to wait for my wheelchair accessible vehicle?
If you buy a Used WAV from us, we aim to deliver within 2 weeks from order (subject to the time taken for your Motability application (if applicable) to be approved).
For our most popular brand new models, we hold the base vehicles that we are going to convert in stock, for which a lead time of 6 weeks from order to delivery is typical. For any other models, we will place the order for the base vehicle with the manufacturer and it typically takes 16-20 weeks for us to receive the vehicle from them for us to then convert for you.
Please note that these are rough approximations. Lead times will obviously vary depending on how busy we are in the workshop and the current lead time from the manufacturers. Your Sales Advisor would however provide an estimated lead time when you place your order. We will endeavour to meet customer deadlines wherever possible.
How do I decide which wheelchair accessible vehicle is right for me?
We understand that buying a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) is a big decision. That’s why we have a dedicated team of Advisors on hand. We will have an initial discussion with you over the telephone to assess which vehicle we believe would be most suitable, and we will then bring the vehicle to your home for a free, no obligation demonstration. There is no pushy sell. We want you to be completely happy that the vehicle you buy is right for you & your family.
How do I request a brochure?
All our individual product brochures are available to download on our website by clicking on the relevant product page. If however you’d prefer a printed copy, please contact us on 0330 0422 621 (at your standard network rate), or email [email protected], and we will happily post the brochure(s) to your home address free of charge.
Can I request a home demonstration of more than one vehicle?
Typically, when customers explain their detailed requirements to our Advisors, we are able to recommend which vehicle will be the most suitable. On the odd occasion however, where there can be two vehicles short-listed, we will bring both vehicles to demonstrate to you.
Do you offer Price Matching?
We will look to price match any like-for-like quotation. We simply request a written copy of the alternative offer.
I currently claim DLA/PIP, can I apply for Motability?
If you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of DLA (HRMC DLA), or the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of PIP (ERMC PIP), War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP), then you could be eligible for a Motability vehicle. Are wheelchair accessible vehicles available on the Motability Scheme?
All the New wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) we supply are available on the Motability Scheme, with the exact same benefits as afforded to customers on the main Motability car Scheme. The only difference is that New WAVs are provided by Motability on a 5 year lease and Nearly New WAVs on a 3 year lease.
WAVs are typically more expensive than cars, so some WAVs may require a one-off Motability deposit called an Advance Payment. You’ll see these listed on our website. Your Sales Advisor will discuss the Advance Payment with you during the process, so this will never be a surprise
